What is Pharmacy First?

Pharmacy First Scotland is a free NHS service provided by community pharmacies.
It lets you get advice and treatment for minor health concerns without having to see your GP.

 

Who can use it?

  • Anyone registered with a GP in Scotland, or
  • Anyone living in Scotland

Simply walk into your local pharmacy — no need to book ahead.

What can the pharmacist help with?

Pharmacists are trained experts in medicine. They can offer advice and treatment (if needed) for:

  • Cough, sore throat, blocked/runny nose
  • Cold sores, mouth ulcers
  • Hay fever, allergies, eczema
  • Acne, athlete’s foot, head lice
  • Headache, period pain, backache
  • Constipation, indigestion, diarrhoea
  • Threadworms, haemorrhoids (piles)
  • Warts, verrucas, impetigo
  • Cystitis (in women)
  • Minor pain and more

If the pharmacist thinks you need to see your GP, they will refer you directly or advise you to make an appointment.
