BP MANAGEMENT

Annual Asthma Review

Book: Complete the review form and submit it.

If your symptoms are deteriorating or you have any concerns, please make an appointment with Sooz the respiratory nurse or a doctor as well.

Blood Pressure Checks

Book: Make an appointment with Erica our Treatment Room Nurse/Cathie or Donna our CTAC Health Care Assistants. 

We advise an annual BP check for everyone taking treatment for high blood pressure. If your blood pressure is still high, or you have other problems, the doctor will see you to adjust your treatment. You can also check your own BP if you like.

Patients who are diagnosed with high blood pressure can sign up for Inhealthcare. For more information make an appointment with Cathy/Donna our CTAC Healthcare Assistant.

DIABETES CLINIC

Diabetic Clinic

Book: Clinic runs twice a month on a Wednesday afternoon.

Dr Black runs a clinic for patients with type 2 diabetes. If the clinic timing is awkward for you, then we can be flexible about scheduling appointments for your diabetes care at other times.

You should be sent an appointment for an eye check (retinal photography), if you don't attend a hospital clinic.

Cervical Smears

Book an appointment by phoning reception.

Cervical smear tests are usually performed by ANP McCrae. 

Drug & Alcohol Gateway Clinic

Book: Clinic held each Friday morning in the other side of the building. No appointment needed.  

 

BABY CLINIC

Child Health

Child immunisations and health surveillance clinics are done by the Health Visitor or her staff nurse.

Maternity and Midwives

Book: The midwives hold clinics in the Practice on Thursdays by appointment. Call 01968 672612.

If you think you may be pregnant you can make an appointment with one of the GP’s who will refer you to the Lothian Health Board Maternity Services. Alternatively you can contact the Maternity services direct on 0131 536 2009 to arrange for ante-natal booking.

Ready Steady Baby!

Ready Steady Baby! helps you get ready for parenthood by taking you through the whole of your pregnancy from the early symptoms, through the antenatal care you will receive and on to advice on how to get through labour and the birth.

Family Planning & Contraception

Book: Make an appointment with Dr Cruden for advice on requirements. 

We offer a full family planning and contraceptive advice service. We are able to fit and remove coils and implants during normal working hours. 

Minor Surgery

Book: Make an appointment with Dr Burt.

VOCAL information sessions for Carers

Book: Appointments are available between 9.30am – 12.30pm on the last Wednesday of every month at the practice. Call VOCAL on 0131 663 6869

Physiotherapy at the Practice - Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner

Every GP practice in Midlothian has an Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner attached to the practice who you can speak to you if you have a muscle, bone or joint problem.  They are all highly experienced and can assess and diagnose any musculoskeletal conditions, provide you with an explanation of your condition, appropriate exercises and discuss management options.  This may include referral to your local Physiotherapy department for ongoing physiotherapy,  pain management advice, X-ray or referral for a specialist opinion.

They can help with: 

  • Muscle, bone or joint pain
  • Back pain / Sciatica
  • Neck pain / Whiplash
  • Joint pain & stiffness including knee/ shoulder, wrist and hand pain and osteoarthritis
  • Muscle or tendon pain e.g. tennis elbow, achilles tendon pain
  • Sprains or strains e.g. knee / ankle sprain, calf strain
  • Weakness / de-conditioning after injury or surgery
  • Loss of confidence with movement and physical activity.
