Repeat prescriptions for medicines may be supplied if your doctor agrees. Please only ring for prescriptions after 10.00 am as this allows patients to call who need appointments to see a doctor or nurse first thing in the morning. You should allow 4 working days for these to be processed.
There are several different ways in which you can request a prescription. In general it is better if this is done in writing as this leads to fewer errors and is more time efficient. Please order a prescription either by
- Using our on-line prescription ordering service.
- You may request them by using the computer slip or by written request via the box in reception
- Phoning the practice after 10.00am and speaking to one of the receptionists
Please try to be organised with your medications and avoid leaving it until you only have a few left before ordering more.
If you wish your prescription to be collected by a local chemist then please stipulate which chemist when ordering Rowlands Edinburgh Road (chemist opposite Tescos), Rowlands John Street (chemist in Penicuik precinct), Lloyds, Sainsbury’s and Roslin pharmacy (attached to Roslin Medical Practice).
All chemists collect prescriptions regularly from the practice.
Processing changes to prescriptions in Penicuik Pharmacies
Please note that the practice timescales have not changed for patients to collect prescriptions from the practice. Prescriptions requested before 11am will be ready for collection after 3pm the following day (except on a Friday). Prescriptions requested after 11 am will be ready for collection after 3pm 48 hours later (except on a Friday).
Lloyds, Rowlands Edinburgh Road & John Street
Require 48 hours to check and process prescription request that can be collected from the practice 2 working days after submitting the request. Please be aware that the local pharmacies require a further 5 working days for processing of prescriptions and for your medicines to be ready for collection. Rowlands are now sending your prescriptions to a central hub to be dispensed before returning them to your chemist.

Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see a doctor, nurse practitioner or practice nurse at least once a year to review these regular medications and notification should appear on your repeat slip.
Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.
